I'm Not A Sports Fan BUT...

I am throwing my vote and support behind those fightin' Phils! I have my reasons for jumping on the bandwagon and giving them my endorsements.
Such are:

- I happen to be a native of Philadelphia, for better of for worse...

- When they won the world series in 1980, I was living in Philly and never forgot the celebration and sheer euphoria that permeated EVERYWHERE! I was all but 9 when that happened so it's the type of thing that stays with you as a prominent "positive experience".


- As a result of the aforementioned incident, I was granted a day off from school as a result. If anything, I "owe" The Phillies my allegiance and support for that gracious act alone.


- My recently deceased mentor and friend who was 94 was a major sports fan and adored The Phillies (and even played baseball at a professional level). He would have LOVED to have seen them win the world series again (IF that happens of course).


- Practically everyone in my family and almost all of my friends are baseball fans, many of them hailing from...you guessed it...Philly.
They've been tormented long enough - toss these people a bone and give that city a championship for chrissakes!

- I'll be the first to admit that the conduct of many Philly "sports enthusiasts" can be deplorable and shameful. But those traits have the errr...potential to be turned around into unbridled passion and enthusiasm - with a little restraint perhaps!

- And finally...if anything I just happen to be on the eastern seaboard right now and having the opportunity to partake of a celebration with unseen since 1980 in that city would be personally worthwhile. I love a spectacle! Though I admit I suspect that knowing the "destructive tendencies" I have seen of many atypical Philly sports fans in the past, there may not be much left of Philadelphia in the event of a win (trash your hometown if you team is victorious? go figure...barbarians!) ! And I can make that statement because...yo! I come from Philly yo!

Anyway, it's personal this time...The Phillies gotta win it because well...Bart, Whyte Rich, and Big Bro as well as numerous others I know would want 'em to win. I like it when people are happy. So on that final note...
