Why I Don’t Have A Crush On Obama (Sorry Obama Girl)

No disrespect to Obama...but the media "love" frenzy that seems to ensconce him is appalling. Merely wishing for something (complete and utter change) and attempting to graft a messianic connotation onto Obama don't make it so. The "Obama Girl machine" exemplifies much of this apparent mindless infatuation with Obama - reducing Obama to an empty pop icon, dumbed down for the masses and presented in a more palatable form.

It's a sad statement when something as serious as a political process has to be reformulated into a form of entertainment as politics is a most serious business. Fortunately, despite the obvious fact that I don't have a "crush" on Obama, I am insightful and informed enough to make an independent minded judgment without such constructs.

This can also be said of numerous other candidates such as this week's "frenzy fest" with Sarah Palin. I admit, from my standpoint, Sara Palin does have that "sexy librarian" thing going for her. But no matter how attractive I may find her, I will not cast a vote for her on such specious grounds. Her political orientation is practically diametrically opposed to my own. That goes for McCain as well. For those not in the know, my sole endorsement is immutably for Ron Paul. Something of which I do not consider a lost cause by any stretch.

Voting for what one perceives as "the lesser of two evils" only recycles a milder version of an existing condition. Both candidates are correct in that "change" is needed. But the type of change required at this particular juncture in America's history is far more great and substantive than what I can recall in my lifetime. America needs serious change...not the empty headed, "sound bite" change both Obama and now McCain are attempting to endorse.

That most urgent and necessary form of "change" that is being bandied about as of late will not come from Obama or McCain. Check out the voting records of both candidates for more of a background on that. Sure, Obama would likely make a few more adjustments in the current political machine than McCain - but assuredly nothing as revolutionary as many or Obama would have you believe. A million "Obama Girls" couldn't hope to change my thinking on that proposition! And I don't give a damn if Oprah, Matt Damon, and the Hollywood elite are making Obama their "official endorsement" either. Stick to talk shows and making movies, please. I will use my own grey matter to make such a significant choice, thank you.

And in the sake of being fair and balanced (and NOT in the spirit of Fox news), Big & Rich's performance at the Republican convention endorsing McCain didn't sway me one iota either. It will take far more than a bunch of fat old white men and cowboys in stuffed shirts to persuade me to support their causes (though the addition of the attractive Sarah Palin may have scored a few brownie points with me - wink!). No offense to fat old men and cowboys, of course. But I will make my own mind up on the matter.

On that note...even someone as jaded and periodically cynical as I is finding some astonishment with the level of "manufactured goods" so pervasive as of late. Let's start with Obama Girl. Contrary to what some may have you believe, she is a construct, a product of a political media entity known as Barely Political. "Obama Girl" cuts a very nice figure for certain...but hell, she wouldn't want me anyway. Her heart, mind, and soul...her complete allegiance is solely for Obama. Or so this media machine construct would have you believe.

Apparently, during the primaries the actress-model who portrays "Obama Girl" didn't even cast a vote for her beloved Obama. Naturally, she tried to downplay this - but it clearly illustrates how shallow the political process has become. This isn't the case of a bright, attractive, politically motivated and educated girl looking to capitalize on the net as a means to spreading her passion for politics. No...this is an example of yet another empty mouthpiece. One created by an entity with an agenda in trying to manipulate popular sentiment in a given demographic towards a political endorsement. It's certainly not illegal. But I find it very disingenuous. Hey...let's see the man behind the curtain, shall we?

The same can also be said about MySpace itself. Many MySpace users would likely think that "Tom" is still running the machine, as close and valid a "friend" to you as anyone else on your list. Think again. Tom sold out to News Corp. a few years back, certainly no secret as the event was well publicized. But the ongoing role he plays in MySpace operations has been under some scrutiny and controversy. There is evidence it seems that Tom has been recast as a "media construct" - or as the Wikipedia article states, a "public relations invention". Yeah, I bet. Check it out for yourselves:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Anderson_(MySpace)

Just as Santa Claus and The Easter Bunny are found out to be mere figments, the revelation behind MySpace "Tom" falls into a similar vein. How many of you earnestly believed that the "Tom" on your friends list was a bonafide link to the creator itself? Yes, Tom is a real human being for sure and still has a role with MySpace on some scope and scale. But the "Tom" you're seeing on your friends list is more of a media fabrication and an image facsimile than the brains behind the operation. The real Tom is likely too busy to be bothered with your petty requests for assistance. Like I care. Personally, I deleted "Tom" from my list aeons ago. Only "real" people are worthy enough to be my MySpace friends! I have no time for constructs!

For all I know, perhaps Tom himself does handle some of the support requests. But my point is that once again, the public is being hoodwinked into believing something that isn't what it fully appears to be. Please consider this analogy in the upcoming election and in all things that society seems to endorse. What's real? What's fraudulent? Sirs and madams, that IS the question.
